Potato plants flourish around the nation as 10,000 schools celebrate the International Year of the Potato
Potato plants are in abundance nationwide as the 10,000 primary schools taking part in the Potato Council’s ‘Grow Your Own Potatoes’
project celebrate the International Year of the Potato.
Grow Your Own Potatoes is a great, hands-on learning activity for schools and with 2008 designated as the International Year of the Potato,
this year’s project is especially befitting and a fantastic platform for children to learn about the importance of potato production
around the world.
The Potato Council’s schools website www.potatoesforschools.org.uk supports the project with a wealth of downloadable classroom resources
linked to the formal curriculum for KS1 and KS2. This year there are new worksheets specially created to mark the International
Year of the Potato which support various programmes of study in geography and history and include crop rotation, grid references and timelines.
These worksheets are only available this year so look for the International Year of the Potato download in the Teachers Centre on the website.
