Take part in the Year and get cooking

Learning to cook even a few simple dishes will give children a useful life skill, as well as being a fun way to get hands-on with food. That’s why the Year of Food and Farming wants pupils to have the opportunity to prepare food during the Year.

Cooking also fits easily into the curriculum and many areas of your pupils’ learning. As well as the more obvious links to design and technology, chemistry and biology, you could think about weighing and measuring topics in maths, consider where food is grown in geography or discuss how and when certain foods came to this country in history. It can be tailored to suit all ages groups and all abilities.

It needn’t be complicated and doesn’t require expensive equipment. There’s lots of help available for schools to develop cooking activities during the Year of Food and Farming, so don’t miss out!
