EASTLEIGH YOUNGSTER SCOOPS NATIONAL ART PRIZE WITH TOBY CARVERY
Ten year old Daisy Hill from Eastleigh in Hampshire has beaten off hundreds of youngsters to win first prize in a national
competition to design a brand new placemat for restaurant chain Toby Carvery.
Daisy will receive £50 of book tokens for herself and £500 of cookery equipment for her school, and her winning design will
be made in to a placemat which will appear on dining tables at 122 Toby Carvery restaurants across the UK.
The competition was open to all UK primary school children, and forms part of the Government’s Year of Food and Farming initiative,
of which Toby Carvery is an official partner. The competition judges were looking for a unique design which encourages children
to fill their plates with more fresh fruit and vegetables.
Daisy’s winning entry for the South East area beat off eight other regional finalists to win the overall prize.
Overall judge, Toby Carvery Operations Director Sheelagh Pegg was full of praise for Daisy’s artwork.
‘Daisy’s placemat not only shows plenty of artistic flair but it also made eating fruit and vegetables appealing to children.
We’re certain it will look great on Toby Carvery dining tables across the country.’
Kerry Passingham, Daisy’s teacher at Stoke Park Junior School, said:
‘We’re so pleased for Daisy and the whole class can’t wait to see her winning entry on a placemat.
She’s always been a talented artist so we weren’t surprised to see her produce such a fantastic design.’
The winning placemat will be on display in Toby Carvery restaurants across the UK later this year.
