Food and farming launched!

The Foundation is delighted to announce the arrival of the new Food – a fact of life module: Food and farming. The module, formally launched on 20 September 2007, joins the two previous modules Healthy eating and Cooking and food skills on our primary school website www.foodafactoflife.org.uk

The module is divided into two age phases 5-7 and 8-11 each with Key Facts which provide key messages, all of which are supported with resources including worksheets, PowerPoint presentations, cards for activities and discussion, videos downloads, recipes and interactive activities.

There are two types of video available: recipe videos, showing tasty dishes which can be prepared with primary school children, e.g. Soda Bread, Crunchy Winter Salad and freshly squeezed juices; and, unique to this module, clips which show farming processes such as crops being planted and cows being milked.

There are 3 types of interactive activity Plant or animal?, Where does my meal come from? and Farm to fork. These activities are a fun way of helping children understand where their food comes from and reinforcing fundamental teaching messages. Both the videos and interactive activities can be shown on individual computers or interactive whiteboards in the classroom.

This new module also supports the Year of Food and Farming, which aims to help teachers deliver lessons on where food comes from, how it is produced and the Farm to fork stages.
