The National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (NFYFC) has been busy promoting the Year of Food and Farming to members of Young Farmers' Clubs (YFCs) and encouraging them to use their existing food and farming activities to take part in the Year. YFCs aim to provide young people with opportunities to have fun, learn and achieve through a diverse programme of food and farming activities, many of which lend themselves to supporting the Year of Food and Farming.
NFYFC was part of the Food and Farming Working Group, which contributed to plans for the Year. Initial pledges from NFYFC were to highlight the Year of Food and Farming to YFC members and incorporate the theme into its 2007-08 YFC competitions' programme, including the 2007 farm business development competition (link to article on NFYFC website). NFYFC has already participated with Food and Countryside Education (FACE), of which it is a member, to encourage YFC members to help mentor school visits at the Royal Show and to replicate this activity at regional shows (link to article on NFYFC website).
As the year progresses, NFYFC hopes to be able to highlight regional YFC events organised by its members to support the Year, and existing events that incorporate the Year. News of these will be posted on the Year of Food and Farming and NFYFC websites.
