Home-Grown Cereals Authority

The Home-Grown Cereals Authority (HGCA), which represents the UK oilseeds and cereals industry, is pleased to sponsor the Year of Food and Farming. In celebration of the Year, HGCA will be launching a new Grain Chain website (www.grainchain.com), which provides interactive educational resources for all ages illustrating the cereal supply chain; find out how grains are grown and harvested, what happens to them before they reach your plate, and why they are good for you. An exciting new resource exploring the diverse non-food uses for UK cereals and oilseeds will also be launched as part of HGCA’s involvement with the Year.

In addition to these new resources, HGCA provides a range of free curriculum linked educational resources for Key Stages 1 to 4. This includes resource packs and posters investigating the grain chain and the role of cereals as part of a balanced diet.

HGCA will be encouraging schools to celebrate the wealth of regional breakfast foods and to discover the importance of breakfast with its Farmhouse Breakfast Week campaign. Farmhouse Breakfast Week 2008 runs from 20 – 28th January – to find out more and how you can get involved please visit www.farmhousebreakfast.com.
