Getting your children involved
The Year of Food and Farming wants to give children direct experience of where their food
comes from and the countryside. Helping young people understand where their food comes
from can help develop long term healthy eating habits. That’s why we would like parents
and carers to play an active part in making the Year of Food and Farming a fun and fruitful
    initiative.
The Year could be an ideal opportunity to enjoy some quality cooking time at home. Maybe
you’d like to share the experience of growing something with your child. You might even fancy
making a family trip to the countryside during the Year of Food and Farming. You can visit the
Megamap to find out about events happening during the Year.
The countryside makes an ideal outside classroom. It’s is a safe place to learn, and visiting
can improve a child’s understanding of farming and the importance of food. Supporting the Year
can be as simple as encouraging your child’s school to take part.
The Year is about giving children memorable experiences through a wide range of resources and
activities. Can you offer your child’s school any support to help make their food and farming
    ventures a huge success?
