About The Year of Food and Farming

Who's involved

"One of the most alarming aspects of recent times has been the growing disconnection of young people from the land. This has many consequences, not least that too many children have no idea where their food comes from or how it is grown. The way we produce food matters, and we need to explain that the choices people make when they buy food have a direct effect on the social and environmental future of the countryside, which so many people cherish.

"The Year presents a real opportunity to leave a legacy that will continue for many years to come. I am enormously encouraged that this initiative is being supported by so many organisations and also has the support of Government. By working in partnership, there is the potential to make a lasting difference and transform attitudes to food and farming. I do congratulate all those involved in this most important initiative - it could not be happening at a more important time."
